Eleventh annual School Security Conference to be held on Aug. 8

The conference, held at Washington Township High School, is sponsored by seven South Jersey prosecutor’s offices.

Youth suicide prevention, children and domestic violence and the lessons learned from the Sandy Hook school shootings will be the topics of guest speakers at the 11th annual School Safety and Security Conference, sponsored by seven South Jersey county prosecutor’s offices.

The half-day conference, attended by law enforcement and school administrators and faculty, will be held on Aug. 8 in the Washington Township High School’s auditorium. Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m.

“School security encompasses a wide variety of challenges not limited to districts or county borders,” said Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean. F. Dalton. “Regional efforts such as this annual conference ensure we are working together to keep our schools and students safe.”

Following opening remarks by Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner, Gloucester Township Police Chief Harry Earl will address the topic of “School Children and Domestic Violence” at 8:45 a.m.

At 9:45 a.m., George Scott of the Traumatic Loss Coalition for Youth at Rutgers University, will discuss “13 Reasons Why-Teen Prevention.” The coalition is dedicated to understanding and preventing youth suicide.

Keynote speaker Dan Jewiss of the Connecticut State Police will review lessons learned from the Sandy Hook School shootings by a local 20-year-old man that took the lives of 20 children and six adults.

The conference is sponsored by the prosecutor’s offices of Gloucester, Salem, Camden, Cumberland, Atlantic, Cape May and Burlington counties. Educators receive professional development credits for attendance.
