It will be Aug.2–5 at Voorhees Middle School
The Voorhees Theatre Company (VTC) will present The Princess and the Magic Pea Aug. 2–5, at Voorhees Middle School. The performances are the culmination of the theater company’s summer camp program, involving 140 children from communities throughout South Jersey.
The all-youth production will put on display the skills campers learned during their six-week program. VTC runs the summer camp for grades 3–8 annually, teaching young people acting technique or many of the technical aspects of theater production, including set construction, lighting and other behind-the-scenes disciplines.
The Princess and the Magic Pea is a tuneful musical comedy version of the charming Hans Christian Andersen classic about Prince Peter’s search for a ’true princess.’ The Kingdom can only remain free so long as there is a royal King and Queen on the throne, but only a ’true princess’ will feel the magic pea through a bed piled high with mattress upon mattress. Meanwhile, a wicked witch lurks in the forest, hoping to capture the throne for herself. Audiences of all ages will delight to the antics of the jester as he accompanies Prince Peter on his search, and the comical Witch Zelda and her cronies.
Two casts will present The Princess and the Magic Pea Aug. 2, 2016, at 10 a.m.; Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Aug. 4 at 7:30 p.m.; and Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Reserved tickets for all performances are $10, and are available at www.voorheestheatre.org. Voorhees Middle School is located at 1000 Holly Oak Drive in Voorhees. Contact info. 856–206–3554
