The non-profit Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) is staging five musical productions throughout the summer.
The non-profit Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) will present the classic family musical, “The Wizard Of Oz,” and four children’s musicals this July and August, including the Delaware Valley premiere of “West Side Story: School Edition.”
Sharing the part of the Cowardly Lion in Oz is frequent MTC performer and trustee, Rick Williams, of Channel 6abc. Check the MTC website for Williams’ performance dates.
“Disney’s High School Musical, Jr.,” “Willy Wonka, Jr.,” “West Side Story: School Edition” and “Broadway Kids III” will be presented at the end of the first, second, third and fourth sessions, respectively, of Summer Stage 2017, MTC’s musical theater camp, which is for children between six and 17 and is held at Hope Community Church.
On July 12 at 7 p.m., July 13 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m as well as July 14 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., MTC will perform “Disney’s High School Musical, Jr.” A 77-member cast will present the story of Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, Sharpay, Chad, Taylor, Coach Bolton, Mrs. Darbus and the rest of the Wildcats.
On July 20, 21 and 22 at 7 p.m., July 22 and 23 at 2 p.m., July 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. as well as July 29 at 2 and 7 p.m., a 65-member all-ages cast, directed by MTC’s Producing Artistic Director Mark Morgan, will perform “The Wizard of Oz.”
On Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., MTC’s six to 17-year-old cast will perform “Willy Wonka, Jr.”
On Aug. 16 at 7 p.m., Aug. 17 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the sixth all-teen cast will present “West Side Story: School Edition” — the stage version of the 1961 Hollywood movie that still holds the record for most Oscars by a movie musical with 10.
On Aug. 23 at 7 p.m., August 24 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. as well as Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., MTC’s fourth all-pre-teen summer cast will present a new musical, “Broadway Kids III,” which will highlight songs from musicals such as “Hamilton,” “Moana,” “Anastasia” and “Guys and Dolls” among others.

The location of all five productions is Hope Community Church at 235 W. Main St. in Moorestown. The theater will open 30 minutes before curtain time.
