Young core helps Haddonfield girls lacrosse to best season in program history

The Haddonfield Memorial High School girls lacrosse team’s 2016 season ended on a low note, as the team was defeated soundly by eventual Group II state champion Rumson-Fair Haven High School, 19–3. One year later, Haddonfield erased the bad memories of years past to have the best season in program history. After winning its first-ever South Jersey Group II championship on May 26 against West Deptford High School, Haddonfield stunned defending state champion Rumson Fair-Haven in the NJSIAA Group II state semifinals, winning 8–7 to advance to the program’s first state championship game.

A Tennis Tradition of Success

Jeff Holman, school counselor and varsity tennis coach at Haddonfield Memorial High School, said for the boys tennis team, the players are proud to be part of a tradition of success, and each year, the players are motivated to work harder in order to maintain it. This year, the team did just that earning their 39th year as conference champions and their 15th consecutive sectional title.

Bringing horror to Haddonfield

Kelly self-published his children’s book “Trick or Monster Treat” in May, and it has since landed on some of Amazon’s best seller charts. The book is set in his hometown of Haddonfield, and he said his hope is that in years to come, not only will his son enjoy reading a story set in his hometown but other residents and their children will as well. The book tells the story of three friends trick or treating on Halloween in Haddonfield. He said the friends run into trouble when genetically engineered monsters come spilling out of their candy bags and wreak havoc on the town. The mystery, thriller follows the friends as they travel around town trying to unravel who’s behind the chaos and dealing with the monsters along the way.
