‘Tears of the surviving spouses’ fall on the Burlington County Memorial day Ceremony
Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio said Memorial Day serves as a solemn opportunity to come together as a community to honor the women and men who sacrifice their lives in service to the United States. Walt Tafe, Burlington County Veterans Service officer and retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant, said the county began holding the ceremony on Memorial Day, May 30, nine years ago as a reminder that it isn’t just a holiday weekend but a sacred day of remembrance. Those in attendance at the Tuesday morning ceremony huddled under tents to try to stay dry as the rain and wind surged.
Palmyra High School STEAM Team using their feet to generate electricity
Palmyra High School students Clayton Tennison and Albert Groff are trying to use their own two feet to generate electricity. The pair along with their advisor PHS teacher Tony Gore have used this idea to advance to the STEAM Tank finals, which will be held on October 24 and 25 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. The trio have been involved in the New Jersey Regional STEAM Tank Competition created and sponsored by the New Jersey School Boards Association and the U.S. Army for several months now along with another team from Palmyra High School.
Palmyra’s junior youth can get hands-on police experience
The Palmyra Police Department is currently accepting applications for Junior Youth Academy, Class #4.The week-long Youth Police Academy runs from August 7 through August 11 and will introduce the Palmyra’s youth to a wide variety of emergency services and law enforcement functions through a hands-on experience. Applicants must be entering sixth through ninth grade and be a resident of Palmyra or Riverton. Applications and consent forms are available now and can be picked up at the police station on West Broad Street.
