Weekly Roundup: Volunteers honored at Lenape BOE meeting, Crush Cancer Fun Run returns May 21

Several Lenape High School students also recently won awards in photography contests.

The Lenape Regional High School district honored this year’s volunteer service award recipients, Camden County announced a new program to work with One Love Animal Rescue of Mount Laurel to have inmates train rescue dogs and Mt. Lenape Regional High School District BOE honors volunteer service award recipients

Volunteerism was the theme at this week’s Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education meeting as the board honored the recipients of this year’s volunteer service awards. This year’s student award winners included Cherokee High School senior Avi Patel, Lenape High School junior Meghan Vizzard, Seneca High School senior Cole Zink and Shawnee High School senior Gianna Glatz.

Several Lenape High School students recently competed in photography contests and were recognized for their work. Lenape offers its congratulations to Emily Allen (grade 10), Stephanie Evans (grade 10), and Emory Alexander (grade 12). Allen and Evans won accolades in Ocean County Camera Club student photography contest and Alexander won in the in the national Photographers’ Society of America contest.

Camden County works with One Love Animal Rescue of Mount Laurel to have inmates train rescue dogs

The Camden County Freeholder Board has announced a new program that will utilize inmates to train rescue dogs to be matched with military veterans suffering from service-related conditions. With the pilot program, the board has instructed the corrections department, working with One Love Animal Rescue of Mt. Laurel, to train and care for companion dogs to be adopted by veterans, identified by the Office of Veteran Affairs, who will give them a forever home.

Crush Cancer Fun Run fundraising event set to return on May 21

An annual tradition in the Ramblewood Farms neighborhood of Mt. Laurel will return for its fifth year with the Crush Cancer Fun Run on May 21. The event has local residents run or walk at Ramblewood Farms development to raise money for various patients or groups battling cancer.

Mt. Laurel Township to hold Memorial Day tribute on Friday, May 26

Mt. Laurel Township is set to hold a Memorial Day tribute event on Friday, May 26, at Laurel Acres Park, starting at 6 p.m. Those who attend can join local officials, veterans organizations and other civic groups to pay tribute to those who gave their lives to serve their nation.
