Weekly Roundup: Marlton woman runs Boston Marathon, Tauton Lake Road detoured until around May 8

This week Marlton’s Girl Talk peer mentoring group helped create supply bags to be handed out to the homeless in Philadelphia and Camden, repairs began along a portion of Tauton Lake Road and a Marlton women completed the Boston Marathon. Catch up on the week that was with the weekly roundup.

Marlton’s Girl Talk mentoring group assembles ‘Blessing Bags’ for homeless

Dozens gathered at the Marlton Elks lodge last week to help the Girl Talk peer mentoring group assemble “Blessing Bags” filled with essential toiletries for the Unforgotten Haven charity to distribute to homeless in Camden and Philadelphia. Volunteers packed a room at the lodge to dig through piles of toothbrushes, tissues, bars of soap, bottles of shampoo, adhesive bandages, pairs of socks and other supplies.

Marlton woman completes the 2017 Boston Marathon

More than 26,000 runners completed the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon course on April 17. Among them was Randi West, a woman from Marlton. According to the official Boston Marathon website, resident Randi West, age 41, finished 5785th for women with a time of 3:59:22. Read more here.

Portion of Tauton Lake Road closed until around May 8 for repair work by Burlington County

The Evesham Police Department is informing the public to be aware that the now ongoing closure of Tauton Lake Road will cause “significant” traffic impediments to the motoring public. Taunton Lake Road will be closed from Kings Grant Drive to Tomlinson Mill Road throughout construction, with the roadway expected to reopen on or about May 8. Check here for more detour information.

Volunteers needed for planting trees and shrubs as part of Restoration Project at Black Run Preserve

Evesham’s Black Run preserve is set to get 550 native trees and shrubs this weekend, and the Friends of the Black Run Preserve is looking for volunteers to help plant them. On April 28, April 29 and April 30, the FBRP is asking supporters to grab their shovels and join its “Restoration Project” where supporters will plant native Pine Barrens species such as oaks, pines and sweet pepper bush, purchased as part of a $5,000 grant from the New Jersey Conservation Foundation.

Evesham Police name officer Dave Petersen ‘Officer of the Month’ for March

Evesham Police have named officer Dave Petersen as ‘Officer of the Month’ for the month of March. Petersen has been a member of the Evesham Police Department for 12 years, and police say Petersen is being commended for his investigative skills and commitment to making the township a safer place. Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice annual golf tournament fundraiser set for June 26

Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice’s annual golf tournament “Drive FORE! A Good Cause” will take place on Monday, June 26. The 8-hole scramble-format tournament, held at Little Mill Country Club in Marlton, will have a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. An awards reception and dinner will follow at 4:30 p.m.
