Having read the response from Ms. Dickey, I must admit that she does have a valid point in regards to “biased rhetoric.”
To answer: No, I don’t consider my letters “heat,” but I do like the quote about the “heat” from Harry Truman. As to the “biased tiresome rhetoric,” I do not believe it is tired in regards to our current situation in America.
I guess we should ignore letters dealing with events outside of Moorestown, and to give credit to the Sun for what they do, indeed giving much coverage to events and doings in Moorestown. To be sure, bias does indeed exist in present day and has since time began among humans, per Cain and Abel. It is unfortunate that we have not yet weaned ourselves from it. I do thank Ms. Dickey for the additional quote from Harry Truman, but don’t believe he was the first male to believe that.
I wish it were possible for me to forget what is happening outside of Moorestown, but as is often said, “Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it. Sorry, Ms. Dickey, but feeble minds forget who said it. To me personally, what happens outside of Moorestown either locally, in the state, in Washington or the country is worthy of comment by writers in Moorestown. As I age, I think it is also a great conduit for fun and other views. In the past, there have been view expressed in the Sun that had much to do with politics and you have to enjoy those views and take them in stride. There’s a whole wide world out there, much of it unpleasant, but do not believe it should be ignored.
I believe that on the issue of what letters to the Sun should be about, we will just have to agree to disagree.
