Weekly Roundup: Lenape to host Kevin Todd Memorial Walk, Green Team presents pollinator event

Former soldier Carl Maurer will also soon visit the Mt. Laurel Library to tell the story of his tour of duty in Vietnam from 1970 through 1971.

Lenape High School will soon host its annual Kevin Todd Memorial Walk on April 30, the Mt. Laurel Green Team asked locals to “Bee Aware” when they hosted Burlington County Parks naturalist Jen Bulava at the Mt. Laurel Library to speak about the dangers facing insect pollinators and the library is set to host ‘A Soldier’s Experience in Vietnam’ presentation on April 24. Lenape High School to host annual Kevin Todd Memorial Walk on April 30

Lenape High School 1975 alumnus Kevin Todd lost his life to AIDS at age 40 in 1997, yet students at Lenape continue to honor Todd’s life as they prepare for the eighth annual Kevin Todd Memorial Walk on April 30. Students from throughout the Lenape Regional High School District are invited to attend and raise money for the local non-profit organization Spirit of the Holidays that supports South Jersey families who have been impacted by HIV or AIDS.

Mt. Laurel Green Team asks locals to ‘Bee Aware’ of pollinators with library event

Mt. Laurel resident and beekeeper Joel Sternin of Spring Valley Honey provides free samples of his honey at the Mt. Laurel Library. Sternin preceded a presentation from Burlington County Parks Naturalist Jen Bulava on the dangers currently facing insect pollinators, specifically bees.

Members of the Mt. Laurel Green Team were asking locals to “Bee Aware” when they hosted Burlington County Parks naturalist Jen Bulava at the Mt. Laurel Library to speak about the dangers facing insect pollinators, specifically bees. Bulava spoke at length on pollinators and their effect on the world’s environment, economy and food supply, noting insects pollinate 85 percent of the world’s flowering plants, and 35 percent of the world’s food crops need some form of pollination.

Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office holds annual Crime Victims’ Rights Breakfast

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office held its annual Crime Victims’ Rights Week breakfast at the Westin in Mt. Laurel on April 12. This year marks the 30th year the BCPO has held the event. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office held its 30th annual Crime Victims’ Rights Breakfast on April 12 to honor those whose lives have been lost or disrupted by crime, while also paying tribute to the victim advocates and other members of law enforcement who serve this community. Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina told those gathered in Mt. Laurel for the event that his office will continue to place a high value on support and services to victims and witnesses.

Mt. Laurel Library to host ‘A Soldier’s Experience in Vietnam’ presentation on April 24

On April 24, former soldier Carl Maurer will visit the Mt. Laurel Library to to tell the story of his tour of duty in Vietnam from 1970 through 1971. Maurer will recount his life as a 19-year-old Army artillery soldier and he will detail his encounters with people and places and things he had never imagined existed.

Migrant Worker Outreach group requests clothing and more for migrant workers this summer

Volunteers with Migrant Worker Outreach (MWO) are once again looking for clothing and other requested items to help welcome migrant workers and their families to the South Jersey area as they arrive for the blueberry harvest in June and July. Those interested in donating can call(609) 969–2480 to set up an appointment to bring in donations on the following Saturdays at select sites throughout the area.
