Seneca Valedictorian returns to elementary school, talks about future
Kevin Woytowich is a 17-year-old senior at Seneca High School and the class valedictorian. Woytowich has accomplished a lot during his time at Seneca. He is a member of the robotics team known as the Iron Devils. He is a National Merit Scholar finalist and also was a recipient of a scholarship from the Stamps Foundation based on his accomplishments.
“The Stamps Scholarship was started for colleges by two people named the Stamps,” Woytowich said. “It was for their alma maters, and they wanted to provide funding for the top kids who could go to that college. Over the years, they branched out to many different colleges all over the country. I went down to Wake Forest during a scholarship weekend, not through Stamps originally but through a different one that they have on campus. Through that interview process, although I did not get that one they said ‘Hey. We are nominating you to be a Stamps Scholar so here is the interview date and I hope it goes well.’ I did the interview, and I got the Stamps scholarship. It takes care of everything and I am grateful for that.”
Recently, Woytowich had a chance to go Indian Mills Elementary School to help demonstrate robotics during “Family Science Night.” Woytowich was once a student at the school.
“It feels good because when I was here, the robotics team was not as prevalent at Seneca yet,” Woytowich said. “That experience was never really available to us. I just really appreciate the fact that we were able to come out here for these kids and show them what there is to do in the STEM fields. This whole event is great. I really enjoy being here.”
Karen Clementi, an IMAGE teacher at Indian Mills Elementary, taught Woytowich when he was a student at Indian Mills Elementary School.
“It is not surprising, but it is amazing,” Clementi said. “He was always an advanced student. He started here in kindergarten right off the bat and doing fabulous things. He was always trying harder and always wanted more challenges, especially in the math area. That was his strength in the days when I had him. Just to see him in that robotics club and reading about it, I cannot wait to go to Seneca’s graduation and see him as a valedictorian. It gives you goose bumps when you had a little part in their upbringing. I had him for five years. It is fun to see students like Kevin grow.”
Woytowich had his eyes set on being a valedictorian since the time he began at Seneca.
“I knew that this is something that I really wanted to be doing,” Woytowich said. “When I entered my freshman year, I knew that I wanted to go for valedictorian, so I pushed myself. I pushed the curriculum that I could do. In terms of math, I went at a high level, and I continued to find math courses. Now, I am doing an online Calc-3 course. It’s been an experience figuring out how we can work it out with taking classes and everything. It feels really good.”
Woytowich will be going to Wake Forest. But for now, the future Demon Deacon, current Iron Devil and Golden Eagle and former Indian Mills student will enjoy his last few days as a senior.
