Burlington County Sheriff’s Department fights distracted driving in U Drive U Text U Pay campaign

Through April 21, law enforcement officers will target motorists who engage in dangerous distracted driving behaviors.

Undersheriff Bryan Norcross has announced that the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department will be cracking down on distracted drivers during the month of April as part of New Jersey’s U Drive. U Text. U Pay. law enforcement initiative.

Running through April 21, law enforcement officers will target motorists who engage in dangerous distracted driving behaviors such as talking on hand-held cell phones and sending text messages while driving.

“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that in 2014 alone, 3,179 people were killed in distracted driving crashes and an estimated 431,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver,” Norcross said.

“Distracted driving is a serious issue across the country,” added Norcross. “While distracted driving comes in many forms, texting and driving is the most frequent and most dangerous.”

The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department received a $5,500 grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety for the U Drive. U Text. U Pay. enforcement campaign. For more information on the campaign visit, http://www.nj.gov/oag/hts/dd_crackdown_overview.html.
