Keith Swartley and Madison Edwards took the cake.
Cinnaminson Township Public Schools has announced the high school athletes of the month.
Senior wrestler Keith Swartley had an outstanding conclusion to his high school wrestling career. After helping his team advance to the semifinals for group 2 south, he went on to defend his District 26 Heavyweight title, making him a three-time district champion and qualifying him to compete in the region 7 championships.
Swartley went on to set the school record for career wins — 120 in the region quarterfinals — by beating the eventual third place finisher and he won in the finals to become the first three-time region champion in Cinnaminson history and the only three-time heavyweight champion in Burlington County history.
Swartley qualified for the NJSIAA State Championship tournament where he placed eighth out of 32 qualifying wrestlers. He won three matches and defeated the Region 8 Champion by pinning him in the second period, earning him the status of first team All-South Jersey for Heavyweight.
Swartley completed his career with a record of 125 wins and only 17 losses, making him arguably the most successful wrestler in Cinnaminson history.
Junior indoor track and field runner Madison Edwards ran at her personal best toward the end of the winter season. She finished sixth in the group 2 state championship for the girl’s 1600 , moving her onto the Meet of Champions where she performed as a top twenty runner in the state.
Edwards had a stellar season for the girl’s team and excelled in the 800 and 1600, cementing the Cinnaminson girl’s distance team as one of the very best in all of group 2.
An All-County runner in cross-country, Edwards looks to continue to improve and help the pirates track team this upcoming spring season.
