Tuesday winter storm causes closings, damage and power outages in Cherry Hill
On Monday night and all day Tuesday, Cherry Hill Township was hit with a winter storm that delivered snow, sleet and high winds to the area. While the area received much less snow than expected, the ice and high winds caused thousands to be without power at some point on Tuesday. In addition, numerous businesses and offices around the township were closed on Tuesday due to the storm.
Cherry Hill West Theater bringing comedy, dancing and music to the stage with ‘Sister Act’
Cherry Hill West Theater is hoping to provide plenty of laughs this spring with its 2017 musical, “Sister Act.” The show, opening at Cherry Hill West on March 31, is based off of the 1992 film of the same name. Members of the cast said the show is a lot funnier than recent musicals they have performed. The show also features a lot of large dance numbers.
Cherry Hill East receives Courage in Theatre Award for ‘Ragtime’
The cast of Cherry Hill High School East’s spring musical, “Ragtime,” received a surprise on Thursday when Music Theatre International presented the school with the Courage in Theatre Award. MTI presented the award to Cherry Hill East based on the school community’s ability to address the serious issues of hate speech, race and class conflicts with positive civil discourse.
Nonprofit grief support group guides widows, widowers through loss of their spouse
Helping Other People Evolve Inc., a nonprofit grief support group for widows and widowers, provides a place of comfort for people after the death of a spouse. HOPE has 15 chapters that host 10-week meeting sessions four times per year. The group will hold meetings in Cherry Hill on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. beginning on April 5.
Grammy Award winner Janis Ian to present award to Congregation M’kor Shalom cantor
Long-time Congregation M’kor Shalom cantor Anita Hochman will be honored for her 36 years of service as cantor of Congregation M’kor Shalom in June. Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter Janis Ian will help present Hochman with the Marylee and Stuart Alperin M’kor Or (Source of Light) Leadership Award during a program honoring Hochman on June 4.
