The seal is awarded to students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages
Cinnaminson Township Public Schools will award 11 high school students with the Seal of Biliteracy, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Stephen Cappello announced at the February Board of Education meeting.
The Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students who study and attain proficiency in two or more languages by the time they graduate high school. The seal “encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills our students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices,” according to the Seal of Biliteracy organization. New Jersey is one of 22 states that distributes Seals of Biliteracy.
The Seal of Biliteracy organization aims to help students recognize the benefits and value of being bilingual.
In other news:
•Cinnaminson Township Public Schools is searching for a new superintendent to replace Dr. Salvatore Illuzzi who is retiring after more than 17 years with the district. The district is accepting applications until March 17 and first-round interviews are expected to start in early April, according to Board of Education president Jean Cohen. The new superintendent will start on July 1.
•Eleanor Rush Intermediate School will hold a yoga-based volunteer activity for students that will focus on mindfulness.
“The yoga and mindfulness activity is being offered to our fifth grade students to de-stress and relax before school,” Cohen said, adding she thinks the activity will be great for the students.
•The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at Cinnaminson Middle School.
