Snow is coming Berlin’s way

National Weather Service predicts 4–6 inches of snow for Berlin on Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Mt. Holly has issued a winter storm warning for snow, which is in effect from 4 a.m. Thursday through 4 p.m. Thursday.

Snow accumulations are expected between four and six inches, with heavy snow at times and visibility at one quarter mile or less at times.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will overspread the area between midnight and 3 a.m. Thursday and change to sleet and then snow from northwest to southeast by dawn Thursday. The snow should be heavy at times Thursday morning before quickly tapering off from west to east during midday or the afternoon.

The heavy snow will make many roads briefly impassable and may produce widespread power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and power lines.

Winds are expected from the north from 15–25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to around 30 during the snow, with a slight afternoon “recovery” following, the National Weather Service said.

The winter storm warning is in effect for northeastern Maryland, northern Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Snowfall and ice accumulation forecast maps in addition to experimental probabilistic snowfall information for the latest event are available online at www.weather.gov/phi/winter.
