“Pink Swim Meet” raises funds for breast cancer awareness

Washington Township High School swim team raised funds for breast cancer awareness with sales of t-shirts and donations at recent swim meet against Cherry Hill West High School.

Members of the WTHS boys and girls swim teams got into the spirit of the Pink Swim Meet before boarding their bus to their meet with Cherry Hill West High School.

Visitors to the Washington Township High School and Cherry Hill West High School boys and girls swimming meet at Camden County Vocational School on Jan. 12 will be awash in a pool of pink as the teams come together in a “Pink Swim Meet.” Action begins at 5 p.m. Senior swimmers will also be recognized at the meet.

All participants will be sporting pink t-shirts, crafted with the help of the WTHS Swimming Booster Club that read “Help Drown Breast Cancer,” and will also be wearing pink swim caps. The t-shirts were purchased for $10 and a bucket will circulate through the stands with all donations going to the Breast Cancer Awareness fund.

“It will be like a party atmosphere, for a good cause, for sure,” WTHS boys swim coach Bill Albertson said, “but we will also have a competitive meet.”
