Join the festivities as the organization ushers in the holiday season on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Each December, the Moorestown Department of Parks and Recreation partners with MoorArts to sponsor the Annual Holiday Arts Show immediately following the Moorestown Lions Club Holiday Parade. This year, the Holiday Arts Show will take place Saturday, Dec. 3, on the third floor of the Church Street Recreation Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This annual holiday show features some of the best artistic talent Moorestown has to offer. From performing artists to visual artists and hands-on interactive activities for all, the Holiday Art Show has become a tradition among holiday.

This year the Holiday Arts Festival will offer a special treat for festivalgoers. As an extension of the Recreation Summer Camps, the 2016 Summer Community Art Projects will make its debut. The Conservation Education Tree will be unveiled at the festival and will offer attendees the ability to become a part of this interactive display. The Conservation Education Tree is the brainchild of Recreation artist in residence and MoorArts Board Members, Sophia Geiger. This summer, Geiger and her staff visited each of the Summer Parks Recreation Camps to create this environmental educational project.

Using art as a means of educating and impacting young people has always been a goal of Geiger’s. This past summer, her weekly projects at the Summer Parks Program incorporated endangered animal decoupage projects with lessons in eco-systems and geography. Each animal that the students created was discussed with regard to their endangered status, their location on the globe and what factors impact their existence. The result? The Conservation Education Tree.

The Conservation Education Tree will be brought to life on Saturday, Dec. 5 with its final installation at the Church Street Recreation Center. Festivalgoers will have the opportunity to make their mark on this beautiful project by leaving their handprint on the tree with “Conservation Solutions.” The Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to host this Annual Holiday Arts Festival again this year.
