MFS students to celebrate Annual Thanksgiving Happening

More than 40 mixed-age groups of students, faculty, and staff will work together to create gifts.

On Wednesday, Nov. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Moorestown Friends School (MFS) students from prekindergarten through grade 12 will join faculty and staff for a special all-school tradition in celebration of Thanksgiving.

More than 40 mixed-age groups of students, faculty, and staff will work together to create gifts such as wreaths, tissue paper flowers, paper bag turkeys and more. Groups will also create murals that are collectively displayed as part of the concluding festivities. All crafts and murals will be delivered to South Jersey nursing homes and continuing care facilities by faculty, staff and parent volunteers. The day concludes with a song led by the music teachers, an interfaith prayer, a Thanksgiving story and meeting for worship.

In addition, students will learn the number of complete Thanksgiving dinners they have collected as part of the school’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Last year, MFS families and students contributed, packed and delivered over 150 holiday meals — all of the ingredients for a feast, along with money collected for turkey purchases — to New Visions Community Center in Camden for delivery to local families in need.

Each reusable shopping bag, collected and packed by the students, includes cans of vegetables, cans of gravy, mashed or sweet potatoes, stuffing mix, muffin or biscuit mix, pumpkin pie mix or fruit pie filling, evaporated milk and pie crust mix.
