Throughout the world, Jews will join for an extraordinary Shabbat from sundown Friday, Nov. 11 to sundown Saturday, Nov. 12. Shabbat Around the World, sponsored by the Shabbos Project, will enable anyone who ordinarily does not take the time to celebrate the peace and quiet of Shabbat to be part of a group where Shabbat will be observed. The Shabbat Project is a global, grassroots movement that brings Jews from across the world together around our shared heritage of Shabbat.

This year for the first time, the Shabbos Project is bringing a full day of peace and thoughtful reflections to Haddonfield. The World Project, based in South Africa and Israel, is proud to partner with the Work Health and Survival Project (WHS) of Europe and USA, whose USA staff is based at Walnut Street in Haddonfield.

“In France, where my husband is the caretaker of a synagogue, I can attend services for any Shabbat or any holiday, “said Ilise Feitshans, JD and ScM. “But in Haddonfield, ironically, I must walk miles if I wish to find other people with whom I can celebrate any regular Shabbat. This Shabbat is therefore extraordinary because under the auspices of the World Program, I can open my household to anyone who is curious or serious about Shabbat. Right here in my hometown of Haddonfield.”

Feitshans has been a Haddonfield homeowner for two decades, and her children graduated Haddonfield schools. Feitshans opens the doors of her home to everyone for any or all of shabbat time.

“People are welcome to my house across the street from the Haddonfield Acme to light candles, to pray, to read quietly, to eat, and to enjoy the commradery of shabbat with anyone who comes by. You need not be Jewish to enjoy peace,” Feitshans said.

Shabbat candles will be lit at 4:34 p.m. on Friday Nov. 11 at the Feitshans residence on Walnut Street in Haddonfield. Shabbat will continue until it ends on Saturday at nightime. Candles and food will be provided, but everyone is welcome to join whether or not they eat or light candles. For those people who are Kosher, feel free to bring food of one’s own, if they want to be sure that the dietary laws for food preparation have met their individual religious standards.

RSVP for Shabbat in Haddonfield and everywhere else in the world near you, accessible from the website www.theshabbosproject.org. You can also RSVP by texting (917) 239 9960 or contacting Ilise Feitshans at [email protected]
