Shamong school district donates snacks and beverages to local fire company and EMS

Every day, the men and women of Shamong Township’s Fire Department and EMS get up to go to work, never knowing if their day will turn on a dime to save a home, a business or a life. As stressful as it is, it also comes with the reward of doing something that benefits others. All too often, they just do their job and go home, without any fanfare.

Under the leadership of the Fundraising Committee and Shamong’s own First Responders, Heather Cosper and Jennifer Simpson, the district school nurses, worked to find a way to provide a special way to thank local heroes. They came upon the idea of collecting things that would benefit their tour and give a little comfort after hours on the job. Throughout both Indian Mills Memorial School and Indian Mills School, a collection effort was instituted to gather as many beverages and snacks as possible for the men and women of the two organizations.

The drive was a resounding success. On Oct. 11, during the IMS Fire Prevention Assembly, the staff of Shamong Township School District presented more than 500 individual snacks and beverages to members of the Fire Company and Shamong’s EMS. It does not look like anyone is going to go hungry on the job any time soon.
