Craigslist scams top this week’s Mt. Laurel Police Report

The following reports are on file with the Mt. Laurel Police:

At 11:19 p.m. on May 8, Mt. Laurel Police located a suspicious occupied vehicle in a parking lot of St. John Neumann Church on Walton Avenue. During the investigation officers arrested a male, age 20, of Mt. Laurel and a 17-year-old male from Mt. Laurel. They were both charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and released pending a court hearing.

At 9:12 a.m. on May 7, Mt. Laurel Police stopped a pedestrian walking on the median of Route 73 near the NJ Turnpike. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 27, of Camden. He was found to be wanted for theft in Florida. He was charged with being a fugitive from justice with bail set at $5,000 no 10 percent option. He was committed to the Burlington County Jail.

At 2:36 a.m. on May 7, Mt. Laurel Police located a man sleeping in his vehicle on Masonville Road near Coral Avenue. The investigation led to the arrest of a male, age 28, of Burlington. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

At 12:46 a.m. on May 7, Mt. Laurel Police located an occupied suspicious vehicle in Spencer Park on Rancoccas Boulevard. During the investigation officers arrested a male, age 19, of Mt. Holly. He was found in possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana and a loaded pellet handgun. He was charged with possession of a firearm, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released pending a court hearing.

Sometime between April 30 and May 6 someone attempted to break into the refreshment stand at Memorial Field on Mt. Laurel Road. A window was damaged.

At 11:30 p.m. on May 6, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Atrium Way near Route 73. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 33, of Voorhees. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on May 6, four vehicles were broken into in the parking lot of Planet Fitness on Route 38. In each case a window was broken to gain entry and then various valuables were stolen.

On April 28, the owner of a business on the 3700 block of Route 38 reported the theft of a large lighted sign valued at $1,200 that was being stored in a courtyard of the building. Investigators located the sign for sale on Craigslist. A Mt. Laurel Police detective posing as a buyer contacted the seller. The detective arranged to meet the seller in a parking lot on Atruim Way at 4:30 p.m. on May 6. As soon as the seller arrived with the stolen sign Mt. Laurel Police arrested him. A male, age 43, of Audubon, was charged with third degree theft and released pending a court hearing.

At 3:57 p.m. on May 6, Mt. Laurel Police responded to a residence on Trefoil Terrace for a burglary report. The resident reported that at approximately 3:30 p.m. she was in the shower on the second floor of her residence when she heard a loud noise. She believed the noise was from a passing rainstorm and did not immediately investigate. Later she discovered a front window had been broken. The investigation determined someone broke the window and entered the residence however; the actor left quickly and nothing was taken.

On May 6, a business owner reported that their computer system was infected with ransom ware. The entire company computer system was rendered useless and the hacker demanded payment of three bit coins (approximately $1,365) to unlock the network. At the time of the report the business owner had not paid the ransom and was researching his options.

At 7:08 p.m. on May 5, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 73 near Clover Road. During the stop officers arrested a female, age 23, of Maple Shade, for driving while intoxicated. She struggled with officers during the arrest and attempted to keep them from placing her into a patrol car. Once at the station she continued to be uncooperative. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, obstruction of the administration of law, and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana. She was released pending a court hearing.

On May 5, a resident reported that he responded to an advertisement on Craigslist to purchase an embroidery machine. He sent a MoneyGram for $400 to the seller in Kansas City, Mo. The victim discovered the advertisement on Craigslist was removed immediately after his money order was redeemed and the seller could not be located.

An employee of J&J Hardware on Ark Road reported that someone stole two flowerpots that were on display outside of the store. The suspect was described as a female in her late 40s with short brown hair. She was wearing a black jacket and a flowered shirt. She was driving a black Jeep SUV.

At 4:30 p.m. on May 5, a resident on Normandy Drive (Park Place development) reported that a man exposed himself to her as she was walking on the 6200 block. The suspect was described as a male in his 20s, six feet tall, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and tan shorts.
