ChildrenSong of New Jersey sings at concert in Haddon Heights

ChildrenSong of New Jersey will present its spring concert, “Sing Us Home,” at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Cherry Hill at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. The choral education and performance program, in its 16th season, will present a preview of the concert as a part of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church’s concert series Sundays at Four on Sunday, April 24 at 4 p.m. in Haddon Heights. This year, the theme of the concert explores the human connection to home through song. Sing Us Home will showcase all ensembles from the ChildrenSong program, and is a great opportunity to bring children to see singers their own age performing on stage.

Our beginner choirs will show off their progress with folk, contemporary and blues music, including a version of the familiar tune, “Mary Had a Little Lamb” with an exciting twist, and a gentle and distinctive lullaby from the Isle of Man. Our advanced ensembles will present a versatile program, ranging from Dixieland favorite, “Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey,” to the hopeful and rhythmic South African Folk song, “Singabahambayo.” The evening will also include insightful arrangements of choral staples like the Quaker Hymn, “How Can I Keep From Singing”, and apiece based on Jupiter’s Theme from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”. Together, audience and singers will explore a variety of experiences, memories and meanings of home, celebrating both new and familiar perspectives. Whether singing music passed down through families here at home, or the work of a composer continents away, ChildrenSong’s commitment to expressive performance makes this a concert not to be missed.

Tickets are available through the online store of the ChildrenSong website, or at the door. For additional information about auditions or performances, please visit childrensong.org

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students/seniors and children under 14 are free.
