Lenape High School student organizes service project to help homeless

A student from Lenape High School recenlty organized a community service project for the homeless.

Kayla McCourt, community service leader for Lenape’s National Honor Society had organized “Project Backpack”.

For weeks she had collected donations from the Lenape students to fill donated backpacks. Just some of the items she collected were, new blankets, socks, hats, gloves, dental & hygiene products, snacks, cards and plastic water bottles. It was a great success. She collected enough donations to put 50 backpacks together.

After the snowstorm that occurred on January 23, a code blue was issued in Burlington County. Kayla had visited The Extended Hand Ministry, a homeless shelter located at 275 Holeman Street in Mount Holly.

During her visit she served lunch and engaged in many conversations with those in need. At this time she was able to give out all the backpacks that she put together.

They were welcomed with open arms with much appreciation.
