Members of Haddonfield American Legion Post 38 and other veterans and current service members are invited to participate in the 19th Annual Veterans Day Program at the Haddonfield Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. Haddonfield resident Mary Previte will be the guest speaker.
Mary was the daughter of missionaries serving in China in the 1930s. At the time, China and Japan were at war following Japan’s earlier invasion. In December 1941, Mary was just 8-years-old when the Japanese appeared at her school. Mary’s presentation on Nov. 10 will include her description of living under concentration camp conditions for almost four years. Her presentation will also include a description of the joy of being rescued in August of 1945. Since then, Mary has served in New Jersey as an Administrator of the Camden County Youth Center and as a member of the State Assembly.
The Nov. 10 Program at the Middle School will begin in the auditorium and include the Pledge of Allegiance; the “Star Spangled Banner;” introduction of veterans and other guests; remarks by Middle School Principal Dennis Morolda, teacher John Farrell, and Post 38 Commander John McElroy; Mary Previte’s presentation; and “Taps.”
Following the auditorium portion, there will be a luncheon for veterans, current service members, and others in the Library. After lunch, the veterans and current service members will visit the seventh and eighth-grade classrooms for informal discussions with the students.

The members of Haddonfield American Legion Post 38 invite the public to honor our Veterans and attend their Veterans Day Service in the Haddonfield Memorial High School Auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The service will begin promptly at 11:11 a.m. and last approximately 40 minutes.
In addition to the public, local veterans and soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines on active duty or serving in the National Guard or Reserves are invited to attend this service. Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor those who have served honorably in the military, during both times of war and peace.
Thanks to the support of the Haddonfield School System and Haddonfield Memorial High School Principal Chuck Klaus, Post 38 has moved their Veterans Day Service to the HMHS Auditorium because of the possibilities of inclement weather and the opportunity to have students attend the service.
The program will include an opening prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, a POW-MIA Flag Ceremony, the “Star-Spangled Banner,” short readings by selected Post officers and remarks by Post 38 Commander Joe McElroy and Mayor Jeff Kasko.
Haddonfield Memorial High School is located at 401 Kings Highway East. Visitors should proceed to the main entrance; enter thru the left door to the Main Office where students will escort them to the auditorium. Citizens and veterans are urged to take an hour out of their day on Nov. 11 to join our students in honoring our veterans of past conflicts and our military service members and their families who are serving and sacrificing to protect our freedom and our way of life today.
