IMMS Principal Tim Carroll is awarded the 2015–2016 Visionary Leader Award
The first letter of correspondence at last week’s Shamong Board of Education meeting was one that honored the principal of the Indian Mills Middle School.
Timothy Carroll was selected by the Burlington County Principals and Supervisors Association to receive the 2015–2016 Visionary Leader Award in the Principal Category.
“Congratulations to Mr. Carroll and to the Shamong Township School District,” Committee Chairperson for the Visionary Leadership Award Pam Kelly said.
The BCPSA Visionary Leadership Committee has chosen Carroll for this honor amongst a group of principals in recognition of his contributions to the school, the Indian Mills community and state organizations.
“I am very honored and proud to be chosen for this award,” Carroll said. “Burlington County is full of terrific educators and administrators, and I am humbled to represent them.”
Carroll introduced the “Be The Change” lab courses to aid and transition the fifth grade students to middle school and eighth grade students to high school.
He also holds a leadership position with the Shamong Foundation For Educational Excellence and provides professional development for the New Jersey Association Middle Level Education Annual Conference.
“On behalf of the entire school district, we congratulate Tim and thank him for everything that he does for all of us and all of his professional development that he puts together for us everyday,” Shamong School District Superintendent Christine Vespe said.
Vespe referenced a “10 minute Tuesday” that she had attended earlier in the day as the latest example of this exceptionable professional development put together by Carroll.
These are quick, concise voluntary trainings lead by Carroll every Tuesday. He has presented three different topics thus far and has had 18 different teachers stop in to at least one of the meetings.
“My staff and the entire Shamong community motivate me to improve every day. I find it easy to take risks and extend myself professionally because of their unwavering support,” Carroll said.
However he has not taken much time to bask in his recognition. He is always on to the next task whether that is planning the newest activity for their week of respect or their violence/vandalism week, perfecting the schools fire drill time to ensure students safety or supporting his undefeated fall sports teams.
Carroll has strived to accomplish the same goal each day of his 13-year career as the principal at Indian Mills after a message was passed on to him on his first day at the Educational Leadership program held at TCNJ.
The director of the program told him that as a teacher you can make a difference for the students you teach, but as a principal you can make a difference for a whole community.
“This award means I’m making progress toward that goal,” Carroll said.
Carroll will officially receive his award at the BCPSA Fall Professional Development Dinner on Nov. 12 at Deerwood Country Club.
