Moorestown Friends School baseball wins championship

The Moorestown Friends School Baseball team (14–2) punched its ticket to a second consecutive Friends Schools League championship game with a 10–0 win over visiting Westtown. The game ended after five innings due to the high school baseball mercy rule.

The Foxes were scheduled to host Shipley on Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. The Gators dealt MFS their only other loss this season — a 6–3 defeat in April.

In the Wednesday, May 13 semifinal, Coach Ron Obermeier’s team, the defending FSL champions, struck early and often off hard-throwing Elon University recruit Kevin Hendriksen. The Foxes touched the tall righty for three runs in the first, three runs in the second, and four runs in the third. Leading the offensive charge were the Mullock twins, who are both juniors. Mitchell Mullock, also the winning pitcher, was 2–2 with five RBI, and Matthew Mullock was 2–3 with three runs scored.

Mitchell Mullock was dominant on the mound, mixing speeds and keeping Moose batters off balance the entire game. He gave up just three hits and struck out three.

The visiting Moose, behind a dominating performance from Hendriksen, had handed the Foxes one of their two losses earlier in the season, with Hendriksen striking out 16 in the 6–3 Westtown victory.

It was also announced that the Foxes are the top seed in the upcoming NJSIAA Non-Public B South tournament. They will host the winner of №8 Wardlaw-Hartridge/№9 Pingry on May 26.

Last year, MFS defeated host George School, 4–1, for their first-ever league championship.

Offensively, the Foxes are led by senior 2B Adam Quaranta, the school’s all-time hits leader who will play baseball next year at Franklin and Marshall College.
