Evesham Township Police Department participating 2015 Distracted Driving Crackdown

The Evesham Township Police Department has announced that it will be participating in the 2015 Distracted Driving Crackdown Program.

This is part of a nationwide enforcement effort, known as UDrive. UText. UPay. The purpose of the campaign is to undertake visible, targeted enforcement during the month of April, which is National Distracted Driving Month. Enforcement activities will focus on behaviors that distract from the actual task of driving, such as talking on a hand-held device or sending text messages.

The campaign will run through April 21, and it will consist of strict enforcement of distracted driving laws. The department wants everyone in the town to be safe at all times, please be aware of this campaign and drive safely.

From 2003–2012, more than 1,600 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted drivers. Such distractions include: talking on a cellular phone, tuning a radio or CD player, applying makeup, talking to other passengers, tending to children or pets, eating and drinking.

As cell phones are one of many distractions both inside and outside the vehicle that can cause crashes, New Jersey law bans the use of a handheld cellular phone while driving.

Drivers who talk or text on a handheld cell phone while driving face a fine.

Driving requires a driver’s full attention.
