The Department of Parks & Rec Column and Schedule

As March comes in like a lion, spring programs are gearing up, ready for warmer weather and the opportunity to get active. As the sun shines brightly the Department of Parks & Recreation unveils some of its newest plans for spring activities.

Newest on Parks & Recreation list is the Spring Break Lacrosse Clinic. Join the department’s nationally recognized staff of Mary Stefano and Debbie Flick and get some hot new lax skills. This newest clinic, for girls only, will be an intensive week of stick skills and drills to help players of every level improve their game. With two age brackets, grades one through four and grades five through eight, the clinic will focus on appropriate developmental skills for all players. Grades one through four will have the chance to run the turf fields from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. each morning with the older players working from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wesley Bishop turf fields will be the location of this amazing clinic.

Looking for a fun way to meet other active individuals? Trying to restart your exercise regimen? Want to get acquainted with the lovely town of Moorestown? Then join the new Parks & Recreation Walking Club starting Wednesday, April 15. What better way to beat the tax day blues? Every Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. instructors will greet walkers and offer pre-mapped walking routes for ease. At 9 a.m. instructors will offer a light-stretching regimen prior to the walk. All routes originate from the Church Street Recreation Center. The nominal registration fee of $5 provides members with multiple potential routes with mileage calculated, an opportunity to meet and walk with new people, and a safe starting and ending point. Walking Club registrants may also want to consider trying the New Active Adults Fitness Program. This program consists of 45 minute workouts held on Wednesdays in April from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Church Street Recreation Center Gymnasium, additional fee applies.

The department is proud to offer a new partnership with Indian Springs Country Club. Group Golf Lessons will be offered for beginners ages 8 to adult. This fantastic partnership allows participants to play on the beautiful, 18-hole course in Evesham. This five-lesson series will be held on Tuesdays, starting April 21 through May 19 at Indian Spring Country Club and Driving Range. ISCC is open to the public, so once you have completed the inaugural course, you will be able to return to play at your convenience. For only $80, $100 non-residents, you can learn the basics and start becoming the golfer you always wanted to be.

For those not ready to brave the early, cooler spring temperatures, the department is also pleased to offer Badminton. Did you know that badminton is the fastest racquet sport in the world? If you don’t believe me, just come watch. The birdie is a blur when the right technique is applied. Come out and learn how to play and join our newest recreation sport. This program is open to anyone 14 and up on Tuesday evenings for 10 weeks. The session begins on March 17, but you can join anytime. And for only $20, $40 for non-residents, for the 10 week session, you can’t beat it. This program is offered at the Church Street Recreation Center and is divided between beginner and intermediate players.
