On Saturday, March 14, Cherry Hill resident and doctor Jeffrey S. Berns, will be honored by the National Kidney Foundation at the 31st Annual Kidney Ball at Vie in Philadelphia.
Berns is currently professor of medicine and pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is associate chief of the Renal, Electrolyte, and Hypertension Division, director of the Nephrology Fellowship Training Program, and associate dean for Graduate Medical Education. In 2014, Berns was appointed as the president of the National Kidney Foundation.
“I am truly humbled to be this year’s NKF Physician Honoree,” Berns said. “I have had the tremendous and incredibly rewarding privilege of helping to care for many patients with kidney disease during the last 25 years that I have been practicing in Philadelphia. I would like to thank them for allowing me to be a part of their care, and the NKF for all of their work in improving the lives of patients in the region and around the country who live with kidney disease every day.”
Each year NKF selects a volunteer and a physician to honor as individuals who have championed the NKF’s mission and who are dedicated to helping those with kidney disease. Alongside Berns, this year’s gala will honor Arthur P. Pasquarella, chief operating officer of Equus Capital Partners, Ltd., as this year’s Bobby Rydell Volunteer honoree.
The Kidney Ball is NKF’s annual black-tie affair, and serves as an occasion to honor those in the renal community who have made a difference in the lives of patients, and have shown dedication to NKF’s mission. The Kidney Ball is one of the organization’s largest annual fundraisers and is anticipated to raise $400,000 toward the organization’s mission of awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease.
