More than 70 pieces of equipment and 80 employees were deployed from the Public Works complex in Lindenwold to the 12 winter maintenance districts this morning in anticipation of today’s winter weather event. As snow falls across Camden County, crews are on the job clearing 1,200 lane miles of county roadway this afternoon and preparing for an extended winter weather engagement well into the night.
“Starting from storm preparations yesterday, county personnel are continuing to treat roads and are prepared to plow any accumulation that takes place,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works. “This is a full scale operation with all equipment and manpower mobilized to keep Camden County motorists moving and streets clear during the rush hour surge.”
A quick moving clipper system will continue to evolve throughout the day and night over the next eight to 12 hours. The storm event has already produced flurries, changing into light snow in the afternoon, which will taper off between 7 and 10 p.m. There is a chance of one to three inches of accumulation for Camden County and temperatures will be in the low 30’s with eight to 10 mile per hour winds out of the northeast.
“As always, when the weather turns hazardous we recommend that motorists remain cautious and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations,” Leonard said. “Anyone on the roadways during these times should be prepared to encounter adverse road conditions. In addition, please be conscious of DPW vehicles on the roadways as they work to treat clear our highway system.”
