Evesham Township Police to reward bike helmet wearing children

ETPD is has announced a community partnership with one of Evesham’s local businesses. Rita’s Water Ice of Marlton has teamed up with ETPD to help promote bike helmet safety. According to the national organization Safe Kids Worldwide, more children ages 5 to 14 are seen in emergency rooms for injuries related to biking than any other sport. Helmets have been found to reduce the risk of severe brain injuries by 88 percent.

To help promote safe riding, officers from the Evesham Township Police Department will be issuing “tickets” redeemable for one free water ice to kids observed wearing their helmet while riding their bicycles. This also applies to those kids who are observed riding scooters, skates and skateboards.

The department also feels that these interactions are a great way for Evesham’s youth to meet the departments officers and have a positive connection to its members.

This program will run from now through Nov.1.
