Camden children learn to golf at Cherry Hill’s Woodcrest Country Club

Twenty Camden City youth involved with Lifting Up Camden’s Youth, or LUCY, are getting the opportunity to experience golf through The First Tee Program — a national program that focuses on teaching golf skills and building character through core values.

The First Tee impacts the lives of young people by instilling life-enhancing values and promoting healthy choices through golf. The eight-week program at Woodcrest Country Club in Cherry Hill gives Camden’s youth chance to experience life outside their city and exposure to a sport they otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to play.

Woodcrest Country Club has donated its facility and instructors are donating their time to the First Tee Program. Instructors from the Woodcrest Golf Team as well as the director of golf and assistant pro are all working with the summer program participants. Club members are also volunteering their time to help with the program. The partnership was spearheaded by The Joseph Fund, a Camden-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Ministries of St. Joseph’s Pro-Cathedral, including LUCY.

The First Tee Program is taking place on Mondays through Sept. 8 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
