Mt. Laurel Wegmans closed after electrical fire, will re-open Tuesday morning

An electrical fire has forced the closure of Wegmans on Centerton Road in Mt. Laurel for a couple days this week.

Wegmans officials confirmed an electrical fire started in a produce department case early Sunday morning. Everyone inside the store was evacuated and Mt. Laurel and Moorestown Fire Departments responded to the scene. The fire was put out and damage was limited to the area near the case.

The store was closed on Sunday and Monday to allow the store time to clean up. Any products affected in the fire will be thrown out.

“Fortunately there were no injuries and damage was minimal,” said Jo Natale, director of media relations for Wegmans. “We won’t reopen until we are satisfied that the store has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and that work is now underway. At the moment, we are estimating that the store will reopen on Tuesday or Wednesday.”
