On June 20, the Cherry Hill Public Library’s youth services department will start lending American Girl Doll kits as part of the new American Girl Doll lending program. An American Girl Tea Party on Saturday, June 21 from 3:30 p.m. will kick-off the new program. The tea party is open to kids ages five and up. Parents and dolls are welcome.
Cherry Hill Public Library currently has three dolls, Julie, Rebecca and Addy. Julie was generously donated during our American Girl donation drive held in January and February. Rebecca and Addy were purchased from the money donated to the dinosaur piggy bank on the children’s floor.
Each doll kit comes in a carrying case with the doll’s first book, a newsletter depicting life in Cherry Hill during her era and a journal to record her ongoing adventures. The historical newsletter was compiled by the youth services librarians.
“American Girls are very popular, but also very expensive [$110 each],”said Alia Shields, a youth services librarian. “By creating these kits, we’re able to offer a unique opportunity to connect kids with books and a little bit of Cherry Hill history.”
American Girl Doll kits can only be checked out at the youth services desk and will be checked out for one week. Kits must also be returned to the youth services desk. For more information, contact (856) 903–1229.
