Letter: Protect your family and finances when entering new relationship

In a recent Dr. Phil TV show, he highlighted the case of a widow searching for a new love in her life. Unfortunately naive about potential dating scams being played on both women and men, she was conned out of most of her life savings, almost $200,000. Expressing his love and devotions for her, the perpetrator convinced her to wire him increasing funds so he could settle his affairs so they could be together for the rest of their lives.

Dr. Phil and his investigative team were able to demonstrate that the individual in question didn’t in actuality exist.

Online dating services offer an excellent source of dating and long-term relationship opportunities.

However, wherever you meet someone online, in person at the local bar, or anywhere couples congregate, the golden rule is that you never give an individual money to convince them of your love.

Before you get deeply involved with anyone there are numerous steps you can take to check out the person you are interested in.

A new book “Baby Boomer Love” outlines questions you should ask a potential love interest to assure that they are whom they say they are. If still not convinced, there are several investigative services that can also be used.

This may sound unromantic, but you have your finances, family and life to protect in entering a new relationship.
