Camden County holding E-waste collection on March 29

From televisions to computers, many products that used to be solid waste are now E-waste and can no longer be put curbside to be picked up on trash day.

Camden County residents can help keep the environment healthy by participating in a drive-through household electronics recycling collection Saturday, March 29. Drop off your outdated and unused items from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Camden County Public Works Complex, located at 2311 Egg Harbor Road in Lindenwold.

“State law prohibits municipalities from picking up these items in the curbside trash, so this is the perfect opportunity for residents to properly dispose of unwanted televisions and computer equipment,” said Freeholder Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Camden County Division of Environmental Affairs. “Recycling these items will prevent harmful materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium from being released into the environment.”

Items that will be collected at no charge include: computers, keyboards, VCRs, scanners, DVD players, tape players, monitors, stereo equipment, typewriters, printers, TVs, laptops, modems, telecommunication equipment, fax machines, adios, answering machines and telephones.

“With such rapid advancements in technology, I’m sure there are residents out there with electronics piling up in their homes and garages — multiple computers or phones for example,” Nash said. “If you bring those electronics to this free event, everything will either be refurbished for future use or recycled to help protect the environment.”

In addition to this special Saturday collection, the Camden County Pollution Control Authority collects electric waste at the Pennsauken Landfill, 9600 River Road, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you have any items that are in question, please call the Division of Environmental Affairs at (856) 858–5241.
