With less than 24 hours before the next predicted snowfall, the Camden County department of public works is continuing to clear 400 miles of county roadways, while prepping for the next round of storms.
“Our plows have gotten most straight-aways in good condition and we are now concentrating on intersections, curves and hills,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the department, “We will continue with this operation throughout the day and are prepared to tackle the next wave of snow tomorrow.”
On the heels of the major coastal storm we just experienced, another, weaker storm system from the midwest will attempt to develop off of the coast this weekend. Although this system remains highly unorganized, we will be dealing with another round of snow from the morning of Feb. 15. All snow should wrap up by late afternoon Feb. 15, with temperatures dropping into the teens at night.
Since the snow began on Feb. 12, 70 pieces of equipment and 100 employees have been deployed from the public works complex in Lindenwold to Camden County’s 12 winter maintenance districts. Those crews and trucks are also ready to be dispatched over the weekend. The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.
“As I’ve said throughout this last snow event, I’m requesting that all residents stay off the roads to give our plows the ability to effectively do their job and get snow away from the traveling lanes this weekend,” Leonard said, “Extra vehicles on the highway system will congest and slow down our plowing operations. Also, please move any cars off the street and into driveways, while we continue our plowing operations.”
