Letter: Use Park Drive instead of Grove St.

Now about the Grove Street traffic. I have been living here since my house was built. After 60 years of trying to solve the problem, my advice is to avoid it.

I never use Grove Street if I can get to where I want to go by using Park Drive instead. That is the road that meets Grove Street at the light.

I recently learned that many do not realize the advantages this route has, so here goes.

Assuming you obey the traffic speed, Grove Street has a limit of 25 miles per hour. Park Drive has a limit of 35 miles per hour.

During school days, there are youngsters walking or riding bicycles and school patrol members directing traffic on Grove Street. There are none on Park Drive.

The only way to calm the traffic is to get rid of it. If the speed limit on Grove Street was strictly enforced continuously over a considerable time, the traffic would surely calm down.

I do not believe a barrier in the middle of Grove Street would be of any use. It certainly would not enhance the area, and putting down a low barrier, encouraging people to ride over it, seems kind of strange.

If truck traffic were not permitted on Grove Street, it would be a great help. Every time I have suggested this, I am told that this is a county road and we cannot do that. This is an old, worn out excuse. I submit it is only a county road when the weather is good; as soon as it starts to snow, it becomes a Haddonfield road, and our trucks clean it immediately. That is the reason we have to stop the leaf pickup, so the trucks will be ready for snow.

Unfortunately, my trees are very old and do not get the message, so the leaves are never down by the designated time. It then becomes my problem.

I was really hoping a new administration would have new ideas, and they do, but so far not an acceptable one.

So they get an “E” for effort and an “F” for their solution, but keep trying.
