According to Fisher, this program is designed to teach his players the importance of giving back to their community. It is one simple way they can say thank you for the all of the efforts of their teachers and to show the importance of education to the youngest members of the community.
On Nov. 1, Fisher came to Indian Mills Elementary School with four of his players to read to the kindergarten students in each of the four classes. One of the teachers, Jen Trauger, was excited about including the program and exposing her students to some of their local idols.
“This is terrific. Having a group of football players come into the classroom and read to our students was one of the most effective ways we could have imagined to promote learning,” Trauger said. “They certainly helped us reach our goal of being super readers.”
