Moorestown Police Department to host medication disposal site

The Moorestown Police Department will be hosting a Prescription and Over the Counter Medicine Disposal Site as part of the 2013 DEA Operation Take Back NJ initiative.
The medicine turn-in will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front parking lot of the police department, located at 1245 N. Church St., Suite 2.

Residents may dispose of medication either in its original container or by removing medication from its container and disposing directly into the drug disposal box.

If the original container is submitted, residents are encouraged to remove the prescription label if it contains any personal identifying information. Liquid products, such as cough medicine, should remain sealed in their original container.

The depositor should ensure that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage.

Syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted.

The mission of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division Operation Take Back NJ is to provide a safe and legal method for the citizens of the state to dispose their unwanted, unused, and expired medicines.

Each year, experts say, a growing number of teenagers quietly turn to a seemingly unlikely source to score drugs — their parents’ medicine cabinets.
