Burlington County College announced Dr. Anand Ramaswami as the college’s new dean of science, mathematics and technology — a growing field for which the college is planning a new center to meet the demand of students and employers.
Ramaswami, of Piscataway, was east central region chair of mathematics and science at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana. He holds a doctorate in physics and three master’s degrees in chemistry, electrical engineering and physics.
“High-demand jobs require strong science, math and technology skills. Ramaswami is a very talented individual who will lead Burlington County College’s efforts to prepare students in these fields,” Burlington County College president David C. Hespe said. “Ramaswami’s extensive instruction, administrative and publishing experience will help us form an even stronger vision for our college’s important science, math and technology offerings. We welcome him to the Burlington County College community.”
The personnel committee selected Ramaswami after an extensive search that attracted candidates from throughout the country.
“Ramaswami has a strong background in higher education as an instructor and administrator, possesses strong communication skills that have yielded publications in scholarly journals and awards as a toastmaster. He holds several advanced degrees, which is a reflection of our commitment to continuing education,” Burlington County College provost Dr. David Spang said. “Ramaswami shares our commitment to enhancing a very strong science, math and technology program.”
Ramaswami will lead Burlington County College’s science, math and technology program as the college prepares to construct a new center for advancement of science and technology, known as the CAST project, on the third floor of the Lewis M. Parker Center on the Pemberton Campus. The college has experienced a 115 percent increase in science, technology, engineering and mathematics enrollment from 2008 to 2012.
