BREAKING: Rosemary Bernardi resigns amid anti-Semitic scandal

Evesham Township Board of Education member Rosemary Bernardi resigned from her position effective immediately amid the anti-Semitic comments she recently made.

According to school board president Sandy Student, Rosemary Bernardi has resigned from her position on the Evesham Township School Board, in addition to her position as vice president of the New Jersey School Board Association.

“It is with regret that I am submitting my resignation from Evesham Township School District effective immediately. This local issue has become a distraction for the board to fulfill its mission,” Bernardi said in a statement to the board. “There is an immediate need to shift the focus back onto the 4,700 public school children that we serve.”

The NJSBA issued a statement regarding Bernardi’s resignation.

“We have received and accepted Ms. Bernardi’s resignation, which she tendered for the good of the association. Any other action would have been unacceptable,” said Association President John Bulina and Executive Director Dr. Lawrence Feinsod in a joint statement on the NJSBA website. “Ms. Bernardi understands the negative impact that remaining in office would pose to the Association and its work on behalf of local boards of education and New Jersey’s 1.4 million public school students.”

On June 11, the Evesham Township Township Council passed a resolution condemning Bernardi’s actions urging for her resignation following anti-Semitic comments made during a May meeting and changing the first day of school from Sept 6, the second day of Rosh Hashanah, to Sept. 9.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support. I look forward to seeing the important work our Superintendent John Scavelli is undertaking to strengthen public education for all our children in Evesham,” Bernardi said in her statement.
