Letter: Resident supports Borden

As we approach the election of our commissioners for the next four years, I would like to share the reasons why I am voting for Ed Borden. I served with Commissioner Borden on the Planning Board for six years. He consistently exercised common sense and good judgment, was sensitive to the needs of our residents, and was responsive to suggestions and ideas.

From my 10 years of public service in Haddonfield, I have learned that the interests of our residents are rarely uniform, and that a commissioner cannot please everyone all of the time. A true leader is someone who is willing to stand up and take a position on an issue, a position that he or she believes is in the best long-term interest of our town as a whole (not just those whose voice seems to be the loudest).

In my opinion, Ed always has done what he believed was best for Haddonfield, regardless of whether his decision advocated the most popular view.

Our town has its fair share of people who think they have all the answers, and who criticize our officials for whatever action they take. It seems that the only way to avoid criticism is to do nothing, but that’s not leadership.

Ed has demonstrated true leadership over his eight years as commissioner, supporting projects that we desperately need (such as turf fields) and ones that affect our future (such as the Bancroft referendum).

While other candidates can talk about what they plan to do if elected, Ed has proven to me that he is accessible, responsible and certainly capable of leading our town for another term.
