American Legion on hand for little league opening

Last year when the American Legion prepared to lower the American flag marking the end of the 2012 Little League season there was a malfunction of the pulley over which the rope that enables the flag to be raised or lowered rides.

Mayor Colombi was on site and summoned the ladder truck of the Borough Fire Department. The Fire Department responded and meticulously retrieved the flag manually while the American Legion Color Guard stood at attention with Legion member Tom Patton and Tom Reiter of the Pickup Band playing the national anthem. It was an example of how the borough comes together to solve last minute emergencies.

By opening day of this year’s Little League the pulley had been repaired. As the last vestiges of winter winds, strong enough to make the American flag fly straight back over the heads of the American Legion members and dropping temperature to a brisk 41 degrees. The buglers, once again, rendered the national anthem, the American Legion honored the raising of the flag and the 2013 Haddonfield Little League season was officially opened with all the pomp and circumstance one would expect of such an important happening which occurs in Haddonfield each year.
