John Pryor Park will no longer be home to a dog park.
On Monday, Feb. 18, John Matthews, a Troop 44 member, presented his Eagle Scout project to council. Council approved his plan, but Mayor Stacey Jordan recommended he should go door-to-door explaining the project to the residents to help avoid a “not in my backyard” situation.
Matthews said the Boy Scouts would build benches and tables and work on landscaping to create shaded areas. A contractor would have put up the fencing.
However, the residents surrounding John Pryor Park formed negative opinions about the dog park before Matthews could present the plan, Township Manager Scott Carew said.
His project was estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000.
Matthews plans to raise money through various fundraisers and a dog fair at Moorestown Day on June 1.
Carew said the Open Space Committee has selected a new location for the dog park. Its location will be announced at a later date.
