Clean-up at Pennington Park

Burlington County Freeholders are seeking volunteers to participate in a clean-up at Pennington Park in Delanco this Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will learn about watersheds, and inventory and collect litter along the Rancocas Creek shoreline and Newton’s Landing Trail, all part of this 140 acre park.

As part of the Clean Communities Office, this weekend’s event will be the second of three County park clean-up days this spring.

“Burlington County residents care about the County and our parks,” said Freeholder Director Joe Donnelly. “It is great to see so many people working together to keep our community green.”

This Saturday at Pennington Park in Delanco, volunteers will cleanup along the shoreline of the Rancocas Creek in both the Park and along Newton’s Landing Trail. Daily tides bring in debris that remains caught in the vegetation along the shore. This cleanup is part of the NJDEP Watershed Ambassador’s 2nd Annual Dash for the Trash. Last year, 70 volunteers collected 4.5 tons of litter including bottles, cans, barrels, toys, and plastic bags.

All volunteers are encouraged to bring drinking water and wear long pants, long sleeves, long socks and sturdy close-toed shoes that can get muddy. Bags and gloves will be provided. Participants younger than age 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and letters documenting volunteer community service will be available to students. (Severe weather will cancel the event.)

Pre-registration is requested. Individuals should contact the Clean Communities office at [email protected] or (609) 499–1001, ext. 266 and provide your name, address, and phone number.
