Larchmont Elementary School experienced a lockdown yesterday

On Wednesday, Jan. 16, Larchmont Elementary School was placed in lockdown after gunshots were reportedly heard in the area, said school principal Sean Sweeney in a letter posted on the schools webpage.

Sweeney said he received a phone call from a concerned parent who heard what sounded like gunshots. Mt. Laurel Police Department was immediately contacted, Sweeney said.

“No one from outside was admitted and no one went outside during this time,” he said, adding Police Chief Dennis Cribben recommended for three classes worth of students to move to from the rear of the building to the library.

According to Sweeney, regular activities proceeded while the Mt. Laurel Police conducted an investigation, and at 10:10 a.m. the lockdown was lifted.

The school day was treated normally. Students were unaware of the potential threat and continued with their normal classwork, Sweeney said.

Mt. Laurel Police reported the sounds were unlikely to be gunshot related.
