Update: A fatal crash on the New Jersey Turnpike southbound at milepost 39.9 involving two tractor trailers and two passenger vehicles closed the turnpike at Exit 7A yesterday morning. The area was reopened a few hours later.
According to the New Jersey State Police’s announcement on Nixel, three people in a silver Toyota Camry, believed to be a family from Georgia died, while an 18-year-old woman from the same car was treated for minor injuries at Cooper Hospital. The occupants of two tractor trailers and one Ford Edge also involved in the crash were uninjured. One dog from the Camry was also killed. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
According to New Jersey State Police’s alert on Nixle, a serious crash occurred just after 10 a.m. on the southbound NJ Turnpike in Mt. Laurel. Two tractor trailers and two passenger vehicles were involved with serious injuries and possible fatalities reported by medics on scene. Troopers have closed the center and right lane. One tractor trailer is jackknifed on side of road. Southbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 7A. Route 195 west to 295 south will be the alternate route.
Police recommend avoiding the NJ Turnpike southbound below Exit 6.
