A concert for the survivors of Sandy in Haddonfield

When the going gets tough — the tough put on a show!

Haddonfield Mayor Letitia Colombi announced that the borough will host Help & Hope — A Concert for the Survivors of Hurricane Sandy — to raise funds for the New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie’s Hurricane Relief Fund.

The benefit concert will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Haddonfield Memorial High School, 401 Kings Highway East in Haddonfield, and is being sponsored by All Risk Property Damage Experts of Somerdale.

The event will be emceed by Artistic Director Scott Glading, head of the high’s school’s Drama Department, and CN8 Anchor and former Miss New Jersey Jill Horner.

Performers donating their time and talent to this fundraising event include Maud Laforest and HMHS graduate Benjamin Beirs of the classical guitar group Duo Transatlantique. This pair has performed extensively in France and the United States, including at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

In addition, local Haddonfield performing favorites Doug Knight and Franny Smith will offer a medley of tunes on piano and banjo.

Vocalists include mezzo-soprano Stephanie Melzi, a 2005 graduate of HMHS, baritone Eric Dubin, who has performed extensively with the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Melissa Daniels McCann, Broadway songstress, and tenor Cody Austin, who has been featured in concerts with the Philly Pops. Singers from many of Haddonfield’s church choirs, as well as members of the Haddonfield-based New Jersey Master Chorale, under the direction of Wayne and Harriet Richmond, will also lend their voices.

Event organizers continue to reach out to additional performers and potential celebrity guests to participate in this event to ensure its success for both attendees and the hurricane victims for whom it is being held.

In addition, Governor and First Lady Christie have been personally invited to attend as special guests of the Borough.

Tickets for the two-hour HELP & HOPE concert are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for children.

Tickets are available online at www.shophaddonfieldnj.com and in person at the Haddonfield Information Center, 2 Kings Court in Haddonfield, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; and at Haddonfield Borough Hall, 242 King Highway from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This event is being sponsored by All Risk All proceeds from the concert will go to New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie’s Hurricane Relief Fund. Any donation over and above the ticket price is fully tax-deductible.
