New Jersey Assistant Secretary of the Department of Agriculture to speak at garden club

Pinelands Garden Club of Medford President, Deborah Lux, has announced that New Jersey Assistant Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Al Murray, will be the keynote speaker at the club’s opening meeting, at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10.
His subject will be The Benefits of the New Jersey Department Of Agriculture’s Jersey Fresh and Jersey Grown Initiative. The meeting will be held at Medford Leas located in Medford, in the Lewis W. Barton Arboretum.

PGC is a member of The Garden Club of New Jersey, the largest gardening organization in the state, founded in 1925, with over 5000 members today.

Tom Costronovo, Publisher and Editor of Gardener News, the most treasured gardening publication for gardeners across the state, will present his inspiring lecture on How Garden Clubs Can Make New Jersey Shine, As the Garden State.

Jeannie Geremia, Chairman, of The Garden Club of New Jersey’s Community Gardens Grant Program will speak on, Its Easy to Get a Grant… I’ll Show You How!

She is strongly in support of the GCNJ Community Gardens Program. And is making a concentrated effort to encourage local clubs to work with schools and civic organizations to develop Community Gardens as, an enrichment program for the young people of New Jersey. She is committed to leaving today’s children a lasting legacy of growing their own nutritious food and helping to feed the hungry.

Susan O’Donnell, GCNJ Flower Show Co-Chair will have all the latest information on the statewide standard Flower Show to be held at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison, NJ February 14–17, 2013. The theme is ‘Mardi Gras Madness’.

There will be a lively auction featuring Jersey Fresh, Jersey Grown country bouquets, delicious baked and canned goods, perhaps yummy old fashion jams, jellies and perky pickles. All proceeds will be contributed to the local food banks.

PGC has invited the surrounding GCNJ member clubs of Medford Lakes, Mt Laurel, Mt Holly, Marlton, Moorestown, and Haddonfield to hear the inspiring speakers and learn how they can participate in the Community Gardens Program and learn about the importance of the New Jersey

Department of Agriculture’s program of Jersey Fresh and Jersey Grown produce, from the farmlands of New Jersey and learn how garden clubs can make New Jersey Shine as the Garden State.
